KKL
In the late 1990’s, schools in Kampala were coming under pressure to improve academic results and new schools were being built without playing fields. Children desperately needed the facilities and the opportunity to play team sports in Uganda’s capital.
In 1998, in recognition of this need, the Kampala Kids League (KKL) was founded.
Since then, we are proud that over 15,000 boys and girls from over 170 different schools, orphanages and street children’s organisations have successfully completed over 50 seasons of football, basketball, baseball and mini-cricket activity. Over 3,000 adult volunteers have been trained as coaches and administrators, with over 180 different local corporate sponsors supporting the leagues.

Our KKL programme is now one of the most successful of its kind in Africa with achievements on both the domestic and world stage.
The regular thrice yearly KKL leagues (in football, basketball and cricket) are co-ed and for ALL COMERS between the ages of 4+ to 15+ years regardless of ability. Please see our link for latest regular Kampala Kids League results.
From the large numbers of children who have participated in Kampala leagues and from the young players in the rural district sport in development programmes which our sister organisation, The Kids League, organises, there has been some active talent spotting. For the last 6 years, we have taken a team of promising young footballers from the KKL to compete with outstanding success in major world youth tournaments (see The Euro Tour 2009). As a result, a number of KKL players have been offered places at european football academies.
KKL can boast some impressive statistics for both inclusion for all children and young people in its regular leagues and in its elite Eurotour team success.
